Show HN: I am launching board for open-source SaaS alternatives

Hacker News - Sun, 03/23/2025 - 4:01am

If the production cost of SaaS drops to zero, it makes sense to make it open.

That's why I am launching a community-driven board for sharing suggestions about what should be built or listing existing alternatives to SaaS products.

Transphobia Is the Antithesis of Transhumanism

Hacker News - Sun, 03/23/2025 - 3:26am

There’s a fundamental irony in seeing someone claim to be both a transhumanist and a transphobe. The two ideologies are not just incompatible—they’re diametrically opposed.

At its core, transhumanism is about transcending limits: biological, societal, and psychological. It champions the idea that we can redefine ourselves, upgrade our capabilities, and evolve beyond the constraints of what it means to be "human." Whether through technology, medicine, or philosophy, transhumanists embrace the power of reinvention.

Now consider this: trans people have been pioneers of reinvention for decades (if not centuries). We’ve redefined our bodies, identities, and lives in defiance of societal norms and biological determinism. In many ways, we embody the spirit of transhumanism—breaking free from rigid definitions of self and forging new paths toward authenticity and empowerment.

To reject trans people—or worse, to actively oppose our existence—is to reject the very essence of what transhumanism stands for. If you believe in upgrading humanity but refuse to accept those who’ve already taken the first steps toward self-directed evolution, you’re not a transhumanist. You’re clinging to outdated dogma, the antithesis of progress.

Why This Matters Reinvention as a Core Value: Transhumanism asks us to imagine a world where we’re no longer bound by genetics, gender, or even mortality. Trans people live this philosophy every day, navigating a society that often resists their transformation. They challenge us to rethink identity, autonomy, and the fluidity of human experience.

Any venture—technological, philosophical, or otherwise—thrives on diversity of thought and perspective. Excluding trans people isn’t just morally wrong; it’s counterproductive. Their lived experiences offer invaluable insights into resilience, identity, and the human condition—all critical components of building a better future.

Transphobia is rooted in fear of change and discomfort with ambiguity—two things transhumanists should abhor. To oppose trans people is to side with stagnation, conformity, and the status quo. That’s not just anti-trans; it’s anti-future.

A Thought Experiment Imagine a world 100 years from now. Let’s say we’ve unlocked gene editing, brain-computer interfaces, and radical life extension. In this world, would anyone care about the gender someone was assigned at birth? Would they judge someone for choosing to modify their body or identity? Or would they celebrate the infinite ways humans have found to express themselves?

If your vision of the future doesn’t include room for trans people—and the freedoms they represent—you’re not dreaming big enough.
