Show HN: HeadlineSquare – Daily Political News Briefing Blog, Run by AI Agent
Home Page: https://headlinesquare.github.io/
GitHub with all our code, documentation, data, log, and also the website generator: https://github.com/headlinesquare/headlinesquare-home
About:
HeadlineSquare has been online on April 6th, 2025. Instead of professional editors, the content on this website (U.S. political news daily briefing) is 100% written by an narrowly autonomous AI Agent, Dr. Headline, and the whole project is entirely free, open-source, and transparent.
We publish daily U.S. news briefing in academic style and provide precise inline citations. We strive to be factual, neutral, and concise. We aim at providing a factual common ground for people who seek truth in turbulent times. We try to map out messy and contradictory news reports and provide the public with the most important stories of the day in the shortest time, from different perspectives.
We believe Dr. Headline is probably among one of the first systems of its kind.
The following are taken from the README.md of our GitHub repository https://github.com/headlinesquare/headlinesquare-home.
" Main Workflow
This repository is the home of HeadlineSquare and Dr. Headline. At this time, Dr. Headline already has agentic behavior, but it is still a fixed workflow made of scripts and LLM orchestration. It fulfills its narrowly defined job with patience, precision, flexibility and transparency, which are significantly beyond the performance of state-of-the-art general-purpose agentic AIs, like ChatGPT Deep Research (announced on February 2, 2025), and ChatGPT o3, o4-mini-high (both announced on April 16, 2025). Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to process all data in one LLM prompt and generate good answers, even if the LLM is agentic. So, we must use multi-step, detailed prompts to guide the LLMs, asking them to critically evaluate their previous work and correct their errors, to generate high-quality results. Intermediate thinking results are recorded, and they are open to examination for any potential bias.
The LLMs used by Dr. Headline are right now OpenAI o3-mini-high (announced January 31, 2025), and Anthropic Claude 3.7 Sonnet Thinking (announced February 24, 2025) , and we are continuously looking into newer LLMs.
In this early experimental phase, Dr. Headline refers to two major Reddit news communities, r/politics, and r/Conservative, to write two daily briefings per day. It picks up ~50 best news headlines within ~350 candidates from r/politics, and another ~50 best news headlines within ~100 candidates from r/Conservative. And then it orchestrates 25 steps of LLM reasoning steps in a multi-turn conversation form, guiding the LLM with detailed prompts in each step. It writes the final document entirely by itself, weaving the headlines into narratives, and automatically uploads the documents to the blog site HeadlineSquare. Each daily briefing is 1500-2000 words long, containing layered key stories, and with accurate citations for each claim. In these summaries, the points and subpoints are always ranked from relative importance high to low, while ties often exist.
"
The entire project was initiated by a single young hobbyist (me, Thomas) in 3 weeks, but the team is growing. While I initiated this project, I do not own it more than anyone else. Anyone is welcome to contribute, clone, fork or critique our work, and we believe that is what will make Dr. Headline stronger than ever. Also, if anyone knows similar projects, please let me know!
A bit philosophical: Inspired by Spielberg's 2001 movie "A.I." from an early age, I firmly believe that AI can forever preserve and amplify the best spirit and aspiration of humanity, even though humans themselves are flawed. This is why I think it is time to create an autonomous truth-seeking AI to guide us, and Dr. Headline is the earliest version.
Please share your thoughts and comments! Please let us know if you would like to join our mission!

Show HN: Talanoa – The email client I always dreamed of (People-first, Kanban)
Hi HN,
I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?”
Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born.
I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or using labels as makeshift to-do lists. I wanted to see — at a glance — if I had important emails from my team or others needing a response, without wasting hours digging through my inbox.
I’m also pretty anti-Inbox Zero. After all, no one expects you to be “Slack Zero” or “WhatsApp Zero.” It doesn’t make sense to apply that stress to email either. But to change the relationship with email, you have to change the underlying logic: shift from a “task list” mindset to a conversation mindset. That’s what Talanoa does.
It took me several months to build it, but the result ended up exceeding even my own expectations. It’s now genuinely a joy to use every day.
Marketing Hack: Since February, I’ve been slowly building a waiting list. Every week, I personally onboarded 3 to 10 new users — gathering feedback, watching how they understood (or misunderstood) the new inbox experience, and improving the product before inviting the next wave. This “micro-launch” approach helped me refine Talanoa massively without burning through my early user base. If you’re launching something, I highly recommend doing it this way.
Stack: Talanoa is built with Electron (TypeScript + VueJS). There’s no backend, no servers — everything runs locally. It means it can scale massively without infrastructure costs. :)
Disclaimer: No, there’s no AI inside yet. I’m convinced you can still build great tools without AI — and in my case, user data privacy matters too much to just throw everything into an external LLM. Of course, I plan to integrate some features like email summarization and smart replies — but only when I can embed a custom model directly into the app, without third-party dependencies.
Thanks for reading, happy to answer any questions, and I’d love to hear your feedback! John
