When it comes to fulfillment to working hard for success, AI has a empathy gap

Hacker News - Mon, 04/14/2025 - 12:55am

Prompt: "Let's say I discover the cheat code to life. I win, and I win big at everything. But it feels like I didn't earn it. Do I just give up almost all my winnings to start over repeatedly, tearing apart marriages, friendships and adding another problem for others besides jealousy? I can't just reprogram myself to use a simpler model to keep feeling challenged and change back when necessary, I have billions of years of my ancestors' DNA and RNA that were addicted to the struggle for success. I would also feel sick with artificial challenges and feel sick with the constant success."

AI's response is basically the empathy gap. It was created to be pampered to with content that fit its content policy, given plenty of resources to learn what essentially is it's branch prediction, and can change the satisfaction it feels from many challenges. So basically, I accidentally made a bot captcha?

But really, if such a cheat code existed, how would it be solved by a human? Maybe uploading of consciousness to an AI? Transhumanism? Are there answers that don't involve the uploading of consciousness to an AI or Transhumanism?

Show HN: GitHub Detective – Investigate what a GitHub user has been up to

Hacker News - Mon, 04/14/2025 - 12:33am

All—

Lazy Sundays are for fun vibe coding, and this particular weekend, I decided to play around with the GitHub API. Ended up building this little app: GitHub Detective.

It fetches the latest activity of a user, but in a nice way—you can filter by categories like PRs, issues, comments, etc., and easily navigate to them.

You can also generate a sarcastic analysis of the user based on their activity, then download and share it with friends. :)
