Show HN: Open-Sourced My NextJS and Firebase SaaS Template for Quick MVPs

Hacker News - Sun, 03/16/2025 - 9:41pm

Hey HN! I'm a solo dev sharing a SaaS boilerplate I've just open-sourced after using it for several personal projects.

Built this for devs like me who want to validate ideas quickly without infrastructure headaches. Comes with separate dev/prod environments to prevent those painful production mistakes (learned that one the hard way).

The stack is NextJS, Firebase, and Stripe. Yes, I know there's vendor lock-in with Firebase, but for testing ideas, the deployment speed outweighs future migration concerns.

It includes auth, billing, serverless architecture, and automated setup scripts for both Mac and Windows. Perfect for weekend projects and first-time founders.

Fair warning: This isn't ideal if you need complex data relationships or want to avoid proprietary technologies. The serverless approach also means potential unexpected billing if you don't monitor usage.

Would love your feedback or contributions!

Ask HN: License to Protect Training Data?

Hacker News - Sun, 03/16/2025 - 9:08pm

I am developing a system that will be used to inspect some data and identify things within it manually. I expect that, in some cases, these identifications will be used to train machine learning models. Is there an existing license that I can apply to the software that would require the end products of these outputs (i.e. the identifications and model weights) to be made public? Something like the GPL, but to democratize access to training data and models created downstream.

The application is in a niche scientific field and I am not worried about a lack of users, and I expect many users will align with the ethos I am proposing. I am simply wondering if a license or arrangement like this has been created already.
